Art in public space ~ reflection
Permanent public art installation, Emmersdorf on the Danube council building, Lower Austria 2006

In August 2002 the town of Emmersdorf was inundated with floodwaters from the Danube river. As part of the post-flood renovations, a permanent - art in public space - installation was included in the council chamber's building.

The concept is to present visitors, accessing the various chamber offices via stairs or a glass-paned lift, with a series of photographs depicting elements characteristic of Emmersdorf's natural environment. Starting from below water-level of the omnipresent Danube river, upward above the surface and onward through the fields and forest to the horizon and back to tree-tops reflected in water.

The municipal hall on the top floor features a large photograph of Emmersdorf's reflection in the Danube river. This view functions as a pleasant reminder that despite the threat of flooding, the town always remains the proud and beautiful Western door to the World heritage Wachau valley. The 300x230cm image is on permanent display, only to be replaced when the in-built projection screen is in use.

12 digital C prints mounted with acrylic face & aluminium backing - 100x30cm
Inkjet print on canvas mounted over stretcher frame - 300x230cm
